Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a CVICU position in Houston, TX, requiring ACLS/BLS certification and at least 1 year of CVICU experience with proficiency in caring for intubated patients and titrating vasoactive medications.
Details
- 12-bed CVICU located on the 2nd floor of an acute care hospital in Houston, TX
- Day shift schedule: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- 13-week contract
- Patient ratio of 1:2, with 1:1 staffing available based on patient acuity
- Patient population includes post-operative open-heart surgery recovery, intubated patients, and those requiring vasoactive medication management
- Procedures performed on the unit include intubation, extubation, bedside bronchoscopy, and bedside line insertion
- Equipment used includes Impella, IABP, PrisMax, ECMO, Alaris IV pumps, Edwards Hemosphere, and ventilators
- EMR: Meditech
- Every other weekend required; no on-call
- Floating may be required to MICU and CVIMU
Requirements
- Active TX RN license or a Compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA or ARC accepted; must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start)
- Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required for CVICU RNs
- Minimum 1 year of recent CVICU or ICU experience required
- Demonstrated ability to care for intubated patients and manage titrating vasoactive medications
- Experience with mechanical support devices (e.g., Impella, IABP, ECMO) preferred
- CV ICU background preferred
- US SSN and date of birth required for consideration
- One professional reference required (two required for candidates from Florida or Missouri)
- No gaps in work history of 90 days or more in the past 12 months
Additional Information
- Candidate must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible
- Royal blue scrubs required
- Day shift team consists of 1 charge nurse, 6–8 staff nurses, and 1 unit secretary
- Team-oriented work environment; candidates who are collaborative and willing to work as team players are a strong fit
- First-time travelers are not explicitly excluded, but strong clinical skill set is expected given the acuity of the unit
