Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift travel contract at a critical access hospital in Oregon, requiring ventilator management experience and an active OR RN license.
Details
- Work setting is an acute care critical access hospital ICU with 5 beds
- Patient population includes adults with sepsis, respiratory failure, encephalopathy, DKA, COPD exacerbation, RSV/influenza/COVID-19, and occasional stable pediatric patients — comfort with all age populations is required
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2–3; unstable or vented patients are 1:1
- RNs are required to titrate drips including heparin, vasopressors, Bumex, insulin, and sedation/analgesia
- Respiratory therapy is in-house 24/7 and services the entire hospital; equipment includes ventilators, CPAP/BiPAP, and high-flow nasal cannula
- ICU RNs read telemetry strips for med-surg patients
- EMR is MEDITECH
- Night shift: 1900–0700, three 12-hour shifts per week
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- Holiday coverage is negotiable
- Charge RN is a working RN who takes a patient assignment; a supervisor is available 24/7
- One CNA is available on day shift for the department
Requirements
- Active OR RN license required; candidates without one in hand may apply using the 90-day Oregon Emergency License
- Active RN license (Compact/NLC or state-specific) must be in hand at time of consideration — pending licenses are not accepted
- Required certifications (must be active, not pending): BLS, ACLS, and PALS
- Minimum 2 years of ICU RN experience required
- Ventilator management experience required
- Drip titration experience required
- BSN is not required
- Driver's license required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- If placed on low census, RNs are expected to report to the facility within 30 minutes of being called
- RNs not fully cross-trained to other departments may be asked to assist as 'helping hands' when floating; full cross-training to other departments is an option
- Orientation is 3–6 shifts, extended if needed
- Scrub color: navy blue
- Unit is noted for strong staffing ratios and a collaborative team environment
