Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Neurosciences night shift position in Cape Girardeau, MO, requiring at least 1 year of experience and charge nurse capability.
Details
- 17-bed Neurology Unit within a 245-bed Level III Emergency and Trauma Center
- Patient population includes medical and surgical neuro cases: Parkinson's disease, stroke, lumbar conditions, and similar — no trauma
- Patient ratio of approximately 6:1
- Equipment includes IV pumps and other customary unit supplies
- Epic EMR
- Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Every other full weekend (Saturday and Sunday) is the standard expectation
- Float requirement to Med/Surg and Progressive Care units as needed
- On-call requirements as determined by facility
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active RN license in Missouri or meeting eligibility for Missouri licensure (MO or Compact license)
- Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) required
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required (may be completed at orientation)
- Minimum 1 year of recent Med/Surg or Neurosciences RN experience
- Charge nurse experience required, or willingness to take on charge duties
- Valid U.S. Social Security Number required
- No employment gaps of 90 or more days within the past 12 months
Additional Information
- Neuro and stroke experience is highly preferred
- The facility holds a Primary Stroke Center Certification with Gold Seal of Approval from The Joint Commission, a Missouri Level II Stroke Center designation, and a Missouri Level I STEMI Center designation
- Responsibilities include IV therapy and central line care, medication administration, wound care, patient and family education, emergency response, and supervision/delegation to ancillary staff
- Candidates may be required to attend a Neuroscience Nursing course as assigned by the nurse manager
- Night shift orientation takes place on day shift; candidates must be available the full orientation week
- Holiday coverage is expected for at least one major holiday (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's Day)
- Up to 5 days of requested time off (RTO) per 13-week period is allowed; any RTO must be made up during the assignment
- Flu vaccination or a Mercy-approved exemption is required from November 1 through April 1; declinations are not accepted
- Black scrubs required
- Candidates living within 50 miles of the facility are eligible but are subject to a reduced pay rate
- Local candidates within 50 miles are limited to 3 consecutive 13-week contracts before a separation period or facility change is required
