Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU Float position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated academic medical center, requiring EPIC proficiency and comfort working across all PCU and Med/Surg units.

Details

• Float position covering all PCU and Med/Surg (MS) units within a large, 703-bed acute care teaching hospital
• Level I Trauma Center (Adult & Pediatric) with Magnet designation for nursing excellence
• Affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine; certified Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
• PCU patient ratio averages 5:1; MS patient ratio averages 6:1, with potential flex up to 7:1
• Patient population includes telemetry, stepdown-level, cardiovascular (pre/post cardiac cath), and general medical/surgical cases
• Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
• Floating is re-evaluated every 4 hours; travelers may float 2–3 times per shift
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend (EOW) or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
• One holiday must be worked per 13-week contract
• Epic EMR experience required
• Facility may call off 1 shift per 2-week period

Requirements

• Active Virginia state RN license or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Experience in telemetry and stepdown-level care (PCU/DOU/IMC) required
• Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and titrating cardiac drips required
• Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, and blood product administration required
• Skilled in central line care, trach management, and non-invasive airway support (nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, and chest tubes using Emerson/PleurEvac)
• Experience managing PCA and heparin protocols, administering IV insulin, and handling endocrine/metabolic conditions required
• Background in pre/post cardiac cath care required
• Ability to respond to emergencies as part of Rapid Response and Code teams
• Epic EMR experience required
• Two professional references required for consideration
• Copy of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
