Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg unit in Smyrna, TN, requiring at least 1 year of Med/Surg experience and a TN or compact RN license for night shift coverage.

Details

• Located in the main hospital building on a 3rd floor Med/Surg unit with 54 beds, including an 11-bed dedicated ortho/spine unit
• Patient population includes general medical/surgical, orthopedic and spine, stable trauma, psych medical hold, post-catheterization, lap appy/chole, thoracentesis/paracentesis, HD/peritoneal dialysis, CBI, and IR special procedures patients
• RN patient ratio is 1:5-6; RN/LPN teams share a caseload of approximately 10 patients total
• Unit support includes PCTs, LPNs, unit secretaries (weekdays until 8pm), and externs
• Equipment includes Alaris pumps, remote telemetry, continuous pulse ox, specialty beds, transfer equipment, wound vacs, chest tubes, NG and feeding tubes, bladder scanners, and a 12-lead EKG machine
• Documentation system is Meditech
• Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• At least one weekend shift required within each 4-week period
• Floating is at the unit's discretion
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active TN or compact RN license required
• BLS certification required (AHA or ARC accepted); certifications must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start
• ACLS preferred but not required
• Minimum 1 year of recent Med/Surg RN experience required
• No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
• US SSN and DOB required for consideration
• One professional reference required (two required if licensed in Florida or Missouri)

• Responsibilities include performing thorough assessments, managing general medical/surgical procedures, and caring for a diverse patient population including ortho/spine and stable trauma patients
• Strong prioritization, critical thinking, time management, and communication skills are essential for success in this role
• Grey scrubs are required
• The unit has received several recognitions including ACS Certification, Hernia Center of Excellence, Spine & Joint Accreditation, and Leapfrog Top 100 Hospital designation
• Technology in use includes Teletracking for bed placement, MobiLab, PatientKeeper, Inspire App, and Wound Capture
• Collaborative team environment with experienced long-tenured staff and supportive leadership
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible
