Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a high-acuity Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring strong telemetry experience, Rapid Response team background, and total joints experience at an acute care hospital in Florida.
Details
- Work in a mixed, high-acuity Med/Surg Telemetry unit at a 210-bed acute care hospital
- Patient ratio of 1:6
- Strong telemetry experience is required for this unit
- Rapid Response team cases and total joints cases are part of the patient population
- Charting is done in Meditech
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Every other weekend required
- Floating within scope is required
- Block scheduling is not available
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active FL RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Strong telemetry experience required
- Rapid Response team experience required
- Total joints experience required
- Ratio experience of 1:6 required
- Candidates must reside more than 30 miles from the facility to be eligible
Additional Information
- Full clinical orientation week is required, consisting of mandatory 5 shifts (approximately 36–40 hours) during the first week
- Pre-start online modules require approximately 4 hours to complete before the assignment begins
- Holiday coverage is required: if 1–2 holidays fall within the assignment, travelers must work 1 holiday eve and 1 holiday; if 3 holidays fall within the assignment, travelers must work 1 holiday eve and 2 holidays
- No RTO (requested time off) is permitted during the first or last week of the assignment
- Free parking is available in any unrestricted space
- Any color scrubs are acceptable
- 3 call-outs will result in termination of the assignment

Most of the physicians (around 80%) are pleasant and collaborative, which makes day-to-day interactions smoother. The absence of trauma cases can also contribute to a more predictable and less high-intensity workflow.
Cons
Management tends to micromanage, which can impact autonomy. Additionally, when case volume is low, staff may be sent home early, making it difficult to consistently complete scheduled hours. Supplies are tightly controlled through the PICS system, which can sometimes slow down workflow.
