Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position at an acute care hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of L&D experience and active FL or compact RN license.
Details
- 13-week contract at a 210-bed acute care hospital
- Labor and Delivery unit
- Patient ratio of 1:2–3
- Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 AM–7:00 PM)
- Weekend requirements vary depending on unit need
- Floating to other units is required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Block scheduling may be available upon request
- Charting systems: Meditech and GE Centricity
Requirements
- Active FL RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current certifications: BLS and NRP required; AWHONN Intermediate preferred
- Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required; 5–10 years preferred
- Fetal heart monitoring (FHM), vaginal exams, and labor support experience required
- Experience with Pitocin induction, induction of labor, primary and repeat C-sections, L&D triage (20 weeks and greater), labor management, newborn resuscitation, and newborn stabilization required
- Experience in postpartum, mother-baby, med/surg settings is a plus
- Meditech and/or GE Centricity EMR experience preferred
- Must reside more than 30 miles from the facility to be eligible
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include labor support, triage, induction management, C-section assistance, newborn resuscitation and stabilization, non-stress tests (NSTs), and breastfeeding support after delivery
- Scrubs are provided by the facility
- Free parking available in any unrestricted space
- All time-off and scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of initial application
- 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years are required for consideration
- Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained is required for consideration

Most of the physicians (around 80%) are pleasant and collaborative, which makes day-to-day interactions smoother. The absence of trauma cases can also contribute to a more predictable and less high-intensity workflow.
Cons
Management tends to micromanage, which can impact autonomy. Additionally, when case volume is low, staff may be sent home early, making it difficult to consistently complete scheduled hours. Supplies are tightly controlled through the PICS system, which can sometimes slow down workflow.
