Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Observation Unit (Med/Surg Tele) position at a Trauma Level III teaching hospital in North Carolina, requiring 18 months of Med/Tele experience and a NC or compact RN license.

- Emergency Observation Unit within a 457-licensed-bed, Trauma Level III teaching hospital
- Designated Chest Pain Center, Stroke Center of Excellence, and Bariatric Center of Excellence
- 10-bed unit with an average daily census of 8 patients
- Common patient diagnoses include chest pain, syncope, and angina
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:5
- Required skills include stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley)
- Medication drip management required, including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF
- EMR: Epic; IV Pumps: Alaris; Medication Dispensing: Omnicell
- 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a (36 hours/week)
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Floating required within Region 1 (Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) per regional needs — candidates must be agreeable to floating to all facilities in the region
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- General Med/Tele skillset required, including cardiac rhythm interpretation and IV medication drip management
- Epic EMR experience
- Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN is required for consideration
Additional Information
- Department support includes a Supervisor, Charge RN, Resource RN (assists with admissions/discharges), 24/7 Hospitalist, 24/7 Respiratory Therapy, and an IV/VAT Team
- Phlebotomy is a combined effort between RNs and the IV team
- Orientation includes a facility NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Schedules are created on a 6-week cycle
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays
- Navy scrubs required
- Free employee parking available
- First-time travelers are not preferred but will be considered
- Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
