Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced Pediatric PACU RN for a Level 1 Trauma academic medical center requiring PALS certification and prior travel experience.
Details
- Pediatric Post Anesthesia Care Unit with 20 bays and an average census of 30-40 patients per day
- Serves pediatric patients ages 0-17, primarily inpatient with some outpatient cases
- Covers most surgical specialties except cardiac
- RN to patient ratio of 1:1, up to 1:2 based on acuity
- Manages ICU-level drips including heparin, insulin, and occasionally cardiac gtts
- Limited use of BiPAP primarily in post-operative settings
- Vented patients are transferred directly to the ICU
- Nurses are responsible for telemetry monitoring
- Occasionally floats to care for adult patients within the unit
- 12-hour day shift schedule, 0900-2100, 36 hours per week
- Call rotation of 4-5 shifts within an 8-week period including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Philips monitors
Requirements
- Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
- BLS and PALS certification required
- Minimum 1 year of pediatric critical care experience required, 2 years preferred
- Must have completed at least one prior travel assignment
- Experience with Epic EMR required
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

- Level 1 Trauma Designation, Chest Pain Center, and Stroke Center at an academic teaching hospital with 885 licensed beds
- Unit support includes a transporter, HUC/receptionist, dedicated PACU educator, and a non-patient-assigned charge nurse/manager
- No phlebotomy responsibilities; anesthesia support available 24/7
- Open bay unit requiring a team-oriented, all-hands-on-deck approach
- Self-motivated and resourceful candidates who can independently seek support when needed are ideal
- Orientation includes a New Employee Orientation (NEO) day and 2 precepted shifts
- Scrubs are provided and parking is free
- Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius to be considered, as local candidates are not accepted
- Previous employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
