Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Stepdown (CVU) night shift position at a Level I Trauma facility in Nebraska, requiring active NE or compact RN licensure and a minimum of 2 years of cardiac experience.

Details

• Acute care stepdown unit (CVU) within a Level I Trauma hospital setting
• 18-bed unit caring for intermediate-level cardiac and vascular patients, including downgraded CVICU patients
• Patient population includes those with CHF, A-fib RVR, CVAs, and patients supported by the thoracic, EP, cath lab, and structural heart programs
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4, with 1:3 for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hours
• RNs are required to titrate drips, including amiodarone, nitroglycerin, nicardipine, epinephrine, cardizem, and other blood pressure management medications
• Respiratory therapy support available 24/7; RNs work with BiPAP, CPAP, and nasal cannula equipment
• Remote telemetry techs available; RNs are required to independently read and interpret tele strips (hardwired and tele box capabilities)
• Hospitalist and intensivist in-house 24/7; cardiology available on call after hours
• Charge nurse present on each shift; rarely takes a patient assignment
• Nurse aides/patient care techs on unit at a 1:18 ratio
• Epic EMR in use
• 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700)
• Every other weekend requirement
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Floating required to units of same or lower acuity level
• Schedule managed by unit manager; no block or self-scheduling

Requirements

• Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses not accepted
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, with at least 1 year of experience with cardiac/stepdown patient populations
• Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips required
• Driver's license required for consideration (used to verify candidate resides at least 50 miles from the facility)
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; permanent address as listed on driver's license is used to verify distance
• Candidates who are currently or have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
• A pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered on Friday during orientation; a score of 90% or higher is required to pass — failure results in contract termination
• Unit-specific orientation is tailored to the candidate's experience level, typically 1–2 shifts on the unit
• RTO must be submitted upfront and is limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
