Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Freestanding Emergency Department (FSED) position in Brownsville, TX, requiring strong triage skills and the ability to work independently in a small-team, high-acuity environment.
Details
- Freestanding Emergency Department (FSED) setting with 11 beds
- Night shift schedule: 7p–7a
- 13-week contract
- Team nursing model with a staffing structure of 2 RNs, 1 ED physician, and 1 radiology tech per shift
- EMR: Meditech (experience preferred)
- Procedures include phlebotomy, ED nursing care across all triage levels, airway management and intubation support, splinting and immobilization, moderate sedation monitoring and recovery, wound care and laceration repair assistance, and cardiac monitoring, code response, and resuscitation support
- Point-of-care testing experience in an FSED setting is preferred
- Float requirement: may float to a nearby FSED location and the main campus ED
Requirements
- Active TX RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, ENPC, TNCC, CPI (or approved equivalent such as SAMA, MAB, or ACPMA), and NIH Stroke Scale — all certifications must not expire within 30 days of start
- Minimum 1 year of recent ED nursing experience
- Strong triage skills and the ability to rapidly assess, prioritize, and intervene in a high-acuity, low-resource ED setting
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small, high-functioning team
- US SSN and DOB required for consideration — Canadian SSNs are not accepted
- One professional reference required
- No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
Additional Information
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) is preferred
- Previous FSED experience is preferred
- Royal blue scrubs required
- Block scheduling is mandatory
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible
- Ideal candidates are team-oriented, adaptable, patient-centered, and comfortable working in a small, close-knit team environment
