Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Mixed Acuity PCU/MS Tele unit specializing in medical oncology patients, with night shift availability and oncology experience preferred but not required.
Details
- Mixed acuity PCU/MS Tele unit with approximately 24 PCU beds and 24 MS Tele beds
- Medical oncology patient population with a variety of diagnoses ranging from solid tumors to blood cancers
- High acuity patient population
- Staffing ratios target 1:4-5 but may vary based on unit needs
- Night shifts (7p-7:30a), 3x12-hour shifts per week
- Day/night rotating contract is also available and may include days, nights, or a combination depending on department needs
- Weekend shifts are variable
- Floating required within units of equivalent or lower acuity
- Equipment used includes GE B450 telemetry monitors, Bladder Scanner, Alaris pumps, PCA pumps, and Continuous Bladder Irrigation
Requirements
- Active OH RN license or a Compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience; oncology experience preferred but not required
- Previous travel nursing experience preferred
Additional Information
- Orientation begins with one week of Mon–Fri day shifts, followed by a second week of 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor
- Self-scheduling is used — candidates submit preferred schedule requests prior to the final schedule being posted
- Shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period; changes are not guaranteed and are based on staffing priorities
- Strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
- Chemotherapy competence is not required; the facility offers an optional 2-day chemo training course for interested staff
- Pediatric patients are rarely cared for on this unit and would typically be assigned to permanent staff; pediatric experience is not required
- No mandatory break between assignments is required to change representation at this facility (except for Sterile Processing Techs)
- 2 professional supervisory references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
- Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained is required for consideration
- All RTO requests must be disclosed at the time of initial consideration

Units are nice, staff are kind. Single patient rooms with 4:1 ratios day and night on med surg.
Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
