Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an IMC/Stepdown/PCU position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital in Springfield, IL, requiring an active IL RN license and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.

- IMC/Stepdown/PCU unit within a 562-bed, Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital
- Day shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (0645–1915)
- Every other weekend required
- Floating within scope is required, including to nearby affiliate hospitals
- No on-call responsibilities
- Charting system: Cerner (experience preferred)
- Patient population includes cardiac, neurological, orthopedic, respiratory, renal, and post-surgical cases
- Required clinical skills include: interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, telemetry monitoring, rapid response team utilization, post cardiac angiogram/cath/surgery care, sheath removal, TR band, pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure, feeding tube care, full IV therapy and phlebotomy (ports, arterial lines, PICC lines, central lines, blood product administration), heparin protocols, cardiac and vasoactive drip management including titration, PCA, procedural sedation, craniotomy, CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, TBI, ortho trauma, total joint replacements, peripheral nerve block catheters, skin grafts, surgical drains, ventilator care, chest tubes, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, tracheostomy management, wound care/wound vac, and isolation precautions
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required at time of consideration — pending licensure is not accepted
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a Telemetry, Neuro Stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC, or Stepdown setting required
- Required certifications: BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) — must be AHA or Red Cross issued (RQI AHA cards not accepted)
- ACLS preferred
- SSN and DOB required for consideration
- First-time travelers are not eligible for this position
Additional Information
- Teaching hospital and Level I Trauma experience preferred
- Cerner EMR experience preferred
- Candidates must be prepared to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- RTO is ideally no more than 5 days; requests exceeding 5 days require facility approval
- Any former permanent or PRN employee of the Memorial Hospital System must have been separated for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
- Travel pairs are not accepted
- Local candidates are welcome to apply — no radius restriction for this role
- Scrubs: any solid color
- Parking is available at no cost with a permit obtained during orientation
