Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an LDRP position at a Critical Access Hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of LDRP experience and the ability to work autonomously on day/night rotating shifts.

Details

  • Acute care setting within a Women's Services LDRP unit at a Critical Access Hospital (CAH)
  • Unit consists of 6 LDRP beds (labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum combined), with 1 dedicated OR suite for C-sections
  • Approximately 160 births per year (12–17 per month); no twin or triplet deliveries — high-risk patients are stabilized for transfer
  • Patient population includes laboring and postpartum patients, well baby and well mom couplet care, high-risk and critical OB patients, including hypertensive crisis and hemorrhage protocol
  • RNs serve as the newborn nurse in C-sections (not the circulator) and provide couplet care for the first hours after delivery
  • Staffing follows AWHONN guidelines with 2 RNs per shift
  • Titratable drips include Mag and Pitocin (Insulin if transferring out)
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) system: Centricity
  • EMR: Epic
  • 12-hour shifts on a day/night rotating schedule with weekends distributed equitably with core staff
  • Travelers are first to float (floating is task-based, not departmental shift coverage)
  • No on-call or standby requirement

Requirements

  • Active Idaho (ID) or Compact RN license required — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NRP, STABLE, and AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring
  • Minimum 2 years of LDRP experience required; candidates with strong recent L&D experience may be considered if they also have some LDRP or postpartum experience within the last few years
  • Newborn stabilization skills required
  • Must be comfortable managing laboring patients autonomously and independently, particularly on nights and weekends
  • BSN not required
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Valid driver's license required

Additional Information

  • Orientation consists of 1 facility/Epic orientation day plus two 12-hour shifts of unit-specific orientation
  • A St. Luke's core nurse serves as Charge RN when possible; a house supervisor is available for additional support
  • OB providers are not in-house overnight — they are in clinic Monday–Friday and on-call for laboring patients; a shared hospitalist covers at night
  • Anesthesia is on-call after hours with a 30-minute response time
  • Peds physician is on-site Monday–Friday for newborns and on-call nights and weekends
  • No nurse aides or surgical techs currently on the unit
  • Surgical scrubs required; own scrubs may be worn except during delivery, when hospital surgical scrubs are required
  • Holidays are distributed equitably with core staff
  • No blocked scheduling or special scheduling requests will be accepted
  • Former permanent employees of this facility must have been separated for at least one year before being eligible for a travel assignment
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — permanent address will be verified prior to profile review; local candidates are not accepted

Ketchum, ID

About

Tucked in the Rocky Mountains of south-central Idaho in the shadow of Sun Valley resort, Ketchum sprang forth in the late 1800s as a silver mining town. It still exudes Old West charms with cabin-style shops and historic buildings, but today it's mostly known as a place where residents are obsessed with the outdoors. With a stunning backdrop of towering peaks that rise into bright blue skies, pristine streams offering blue-ribbon trout fishing, and endless opportunities for hiking, mountain biking and skiing, it's not surprising. Numerous bars and eateries fill Ketchum’s Main Street, including venues for enjoying traditional regional dishes like bison and elk. Annual Wagon Days in early September brings the largest non-motorized parade in the Pacific Northwest to Main Street. It comes complete with marching bands, Basque dancers, western cowboys, wheels and wagons, concluding with a Street Party on Town Square.
