Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring at least 2 years of L&D experience, active ME or compact RN license, and prior travel experience at a comparable facility.
Details
- Night shift position, 7P–7:30A, 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
- Labor & Delivery unit within a locked, circular unit adjacent to Mother-Baby, featuring 7 labor rooms, 2 triage rooms, 2 OR suites, and a PreOp/PACU within the labor room
- Facility includes an on-site Level III NICU and Newborn Nursery; one of only two NICUs in Maine, serving a large regional referral area
- Approximately 1,800 deliveries per year with an average of 4 scheduled events daily (C-sections, versions, etc.)
- Common patient diagnoses include PIH, GDM, Pre-Eclampsia, Eclampsia, HELLP, shoulder dystocia, postpartum hemorrhage, multiples, fetal loss, drug addiction, and cervical ripening
- Patient ratios: Cervical Ripening 1:1–3, Laboring 1:1–3, Active Labor 1:1, Couplet/Postpartum/Antepartum up to 3 M/B couplets or 3 Antepartum/NICU moms
- EMR: Cerner with Fetal Link; IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis; fetal monitoring: Fetal Link (remote at bedside and nurses station)
- Weekend rotation required: at least 4 of every 8 weekend shifts per schedule (may be back-to-back)
- No on-call required; optional call shifts may be available
- Holiday rotation required
- May float to Mother-Baby for Antepartum, Postpartum, or occasional Mother-Baby duties (Newborn Nursery RN handles 24-hour labs)
Requirements
- Active ME or compact RN license required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM), and MOAB
- Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required; must have completed at least one assignment at a facility comparable in size and acuity
- Proficiency in Pitocin titration, fetal scalp electrodes, cervical exams, epidural placement assistance, insulin drip management, magnesium drip management, shoulder dystocia management, circulating C-sections and/or receiving baby in OR, neonatal resuscitation, IUPC placement and monitoring, lactation support, and safe skin-to-skin protocol
- Cerner EMR experience preferred
- No prior permanent employment at any Northern Light Health Hospital
- Must reside 100+ miles south/southwest of the facility to meet eligibility requirements
- Two professional references within the last year required, at least one from a supervisor, manager, or director (charge nurse acceptable; peer references not accepted)
- Copies of all certifications required for consideration
- Driver's license copy required for consideration
- Full SSN required for consideration
- Flu vaccination required for clearance to start (medical exemptions reviewed on a case-by-case basis)
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include managing laboring patients through delivery, circulating or assisting in OR for C-sections, neonatal resuscitation, newborn care (feeds, vitals, assessments) when mother remains on unit for continuous surveillance (e.g., Mag x 24 hrs)
- Charge nurse coverage available 24/7; anesthesia, OB provider, house supervisor, and RT available 24/7
- Additional unit support includes a unit secretary (day shift only), bed flow facilitator (day shift only), phlebotomist, certified surgical technologist (1 in-house 24/7), certified midwife (may be on call), and resident family medicine physicians with attending backup 24/7
- Orientation includes 1 day with HR/preceptor, 1 day of OR/PACU training, and 1 day with a preceptor on the contracted shift
- Navy scrubs are provided on-site via a scrub machine (6 credits allotted); street clothes are worn to and from the facility
- Free parking available on site
- Rooming-in model for Mother-Baby; facility is not Baby Friendly designated but has CLCs and IBCLCs available to assist in the labor room
- Candidates with charge RN (CRN) experience should indicate this when applying
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- All RTO requests require manager approval and should be disclosed at time of application
