Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week Emergency Department travel assignment in Arizona, requiring active AZ or compact licensure, ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications, and a minimum of 2 years of ED experience.
Details
- Small acute care facility Emergency Department with 12 beds
- Lower acuity patient population, primarily ESI 3-4 cases including abdominal pain, headache, and stabilization and transfer of critically ill patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4
- Charting via Cerner EMR
- Telemetry monitoring via Philips equipment
- 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a or 6p–6a)
- 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week period (2 weekends/month)
- Holiday coverage required based on unit needs
- Floating required to nearby freestanding EDs (Litchfield FSED and Glendale FSED); no float to main campus unless acuity warrants
- Physician and mid-level coverage on-site during the day; pharmacy available on-site 6a–5p with main campus pharmacy support overnight
- Charge nurse role available with no patient assignment unless census exceeds 20
- PCTs and paramedics available as support staff
Requirements
- Active AZ or compact (NLC) RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of ED nursing experience required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS — all must be active; pending certifications not accepted
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address)
- Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia (DYS) exam prior to offer confirmation; candidates receive 2 attempts
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Valid driver's license required
- Must have personal vehicle — no transportation provided between float sites
- Must maintain natural hair color and have no facial piercings
- Men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
Additional Information
- RNs are responsible for performing labs, EKGs, patient transport, and transfers
- 2-day unit-specific orientation provided on the floor
- SIMs Lab required on orientation: ED nurses must complete Foley catheter insertion and port-a-cath insertion skills — both are pass/fail, and maintaining sterile field is strictly evaluated
- A pass/fail exam is administered on Day 1 of orientation; a study guide is provided in advance
- Candidates who fail the Relias DYS exam or the sterile technique test on a second attempt are ineligible to work at CommonSpirit facilities in Arizona for 6 months
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or per diem) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Navy scrubs required
- Positive team culture and teamwork are a priority on this unit
