Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Oncology position at an acute care hospital in Nebraska, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and a NE or Compact RN license.
Details
- 21-bed Med/Surg Oncology unit in an acute care hospital setting
- Patient population is primarily general medical/surgical with a specialty focus on post-operative cancer intervention (e.g., prostatectomy, mastectomy)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5
- Telemetry is present on the unit with central monitoring; RNs are responsible for identifying and responding to changes
- RNs are required to titrate drips, including heparin, lidocaine, and TPN
- Charge nurse and house supervisor support available on the unit
- Nurse aides available on a situational basis
- 12-hour night shifts (18:30–06:30)
- Three 12-hour shifts per week
- Every 3rd weekend required
- Rotating holiday coverage required
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Floating is rare and limited to other medical/surgical units only
- Epic EMR used in this position
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses will not be accepted
- Current BLS certification (AHA) required; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Strong communication skills, accurate documentation, timeliness, and patient-centered care approach required
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Driver's license required for consideration and used to verify permanent address
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
- Candidates may not be currently or recently (within the past year) employed full time, part time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health (candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered)
Additional Information
- Travelers will not be required to administer chemotherapy due to internal competency requirements
- Oncology certification is a plus but not required
- An open-book, pass/fail skills exam is administered during orientation — a score of 90% or higher is required to pass
- Navy scrubs are required
- Unit-specific orientation is provided (12 hours)
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
