Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ED RN for a Level 1 Trauma, teaching hospital emergency department, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ED experience and active Epic proficiency.

Details

  • Large academic teaching hospital with Level 1 Trauma designation, Chest Pain Center, and Stroke Center designation
  • 61-bed Emergency Department with additional surge capacity, serving a high-acuity and diverse patient population
  • Common patient presentations include chest pain, stroke, diabetes, abdominal pain, MVCs, hypertension, stab wounds, and mental health cases
  • RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4 (varies by assigned zone)
  • CNAs (4–6 per shift) assist with vitals, glucose checks, ADLs, ambulation, turning, hourly rounding, and transport
  • Support staff includes unit secretary, charge nurse, phlebotomy, PICC team, RT 24/7, hospitalist 24/7, and intensivist 24/7
  • Central telemetry monitoring available in the ED
  • EMR: Epic (minimum 6 months of experience required)
  • Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Philips monitors, VS3 and Dynamap vital sign monitors, PCA pumps, bladder scanners, Glucommander, suction machines, Belmont Rapid Infuser, Ranger, and Bair Hugger
  • 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM, 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation: 6 shifts over a 6-week schedule
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Floating may occur within the ED; floating to a sister ER location approximately 45 minutes away is a possibility but not guaranteed
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active GA or Compact RN license required
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NIHSS, and Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) — candidates must pass an EKG competency exam as part of compliance
  • Emergency nursing national certification preferred but not required
  • Minimum 2 years of ED RN experience required; Level 1 Trauma experience strongly preferred (Level 2 experience requires manager approval)
  • Epic EMR experience required (minimum 6 months)
  • Experience with vasoactive and critical drips required, including Heparin, Insulin, Cardene, Dopamine, Epinephrine, Fentanyl, Propofol, and Levophed
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • 1 professional reference dated within the past year required, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates who have worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
  • Holiday coverage required: one shift each of Thanksgiving Day or day after, December 24 or 25, and December 31 or January 1
  • Orientation consists of 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
  • RN scrub color: Navy
  • Free parking is available around campus; paid parking is also available in parking decks
  • Local candidates are accepted — no radius rule applies, and the same rate applies to local travelers (GA facilities)
