Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a combined ER/MedSurg/Swing Bed position at a rural critical access hospital, requiring active ND or compact licensure and a strong background in geriatric and emergency care.
Details
- Combined ER, MedSurg, and Swing Bed unit at a 25-bed critical access hospital in a rural setting
- Patient population includes geriatric adults with dementia, diabetes, chronic illness exacerbations, post-surgical rehab, trauma, wounds, and COVID
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:8 utilizing a team nursing model
- RNs are required to read and interpret their own telemetry strips
- RNs are required to titrate drips including electrolytes, hypertensive medications, IV antibiotics, and blood transfusions
- Patient-managed CPAP is used on the unit; no additional RT equipment responsibilities
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- 12-hour night shifts (1845–0715)
- Every other weekend required
- Alternating holiday coverage, typically every other holiday
- First to float between ER and MedSurg
- No on-call or standby requirement
Requirements
- Active ND or compact RN license, fully active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC — all must be active; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Experience with geriatric patient care, including dementia, stroke, and skin care management
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year (candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered)
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Valid driver's license required
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include initial ER trauma care, IV medication and fluid/blood administration, wound care, and supporting geriatric and post-acute rehabilitation patients
- Charge nurse is present on each shift and carries a team assignment rather than individual patient assignments
- CNA/nurse aides are available on each shift
- Unit-specific orientation consists of 3 shifts; total orientation is 12 hours
- Scrubs are required; no specific color requirement
- Block scheduling is available but must be requested
- RTO of 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- BSN is not required for this position
