Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Emergency Department position at an acute care hospital, requiring 2.5 years of ED experience and prior neuro/stroke experience.

Details

Work in the Emergency Department of a 210-bed acute care hospital
Night shift schedule: 4x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Patient ratio of 1:6
Every other weekend required
Floating required within scope of practice
Charting performed using Meditech
Block scheduling considered on a case-by-case basis
13-week contract

Requirements

Active FL or compact RN license required
Current certifications required: ACLS, BLS, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), and PALS; TNCC preferred
Minimum 2.5 years of ED experience required
Minimum 1 year of neuro/stroke experience required
At least 2 prior travel assignments required
Experience with Level 1 resuscitation patients required
Must reside more than 30 miles from the facility to be eligible
2 professional supervisory references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required for consideration

Additional Information

Scrubs may be any color; no t-shirts, sweatshirts, or apparel with logos from other organizations
Free parking available in any unrestricted space
RTO is limited to no more than 10 days and requires an extension of 2 additional weeks to the assignment; no RTO during the first or last week of the contract
All time off and scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of initial application
Holiday coverage is required: if 1–2 holidays fall within the assignment, travelers must work 1 holiday eve and 1 holiday; if 3 holidays fall within the assignment, travelers must work 1 holiday eve and 2 holidays
3 call-outs will result in termination
Local candidates are not eligible for this position

Pros

Most of the physicians (around 80%) are pleasant and collaborative, which makes day-to-day interactions smoother. The absence of trauma cases can also contribute to a more predictable and less high-intensity workflow.

Cons

Management tends to micromanage, which can impact autonomy. Additionally, when case volume is low, staff may be sent home early, making it difficult to consistently complete scheduled hours. Supplies are tightly controlled through the PICS system, which can sometimes slow down workflow.
