Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/HVU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring cardiac step-down experience and a valid SD or compact RN license.
Details
- 12-hour night shifts, 48 hours per week
- Progressive Care / Heart and Vascular Unit (HVU) in a hospital setting
- 44-bed mixed acuity unit covering Intermediate Care, Telemetry, and Med-Surg levels
- Patient population includes direct admits, ED admits, and post-cath lab patients with diagnoses such as MI, NSTEMI/STEMI, CHF, dysrhythmias, pacemaker malfunction, and epicardial pacers
- Also serves as a backup Stroke unit and Medical Overflow unit
- RN-to-patient ratio is typically 1:4, may be 1:3 depending on acuity
- Epic EMR used; candidates without Epic experience may require manager approval
- Equipment includes Alaris pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing
- Tele tech oversees cardiac monitoring; RN confirms strips at 6a and 6p
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Holiday coverage required on a rotating basis
- Floating primarily to the sister General PCU unit; may also float to MS/Tele or ICU to care for PCU-level patients, within scope of practice
Requirements
- Active RN license issued by or valid in South Dakota (SD state license or compact license) required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 1.5 years of general nursing experience required
- PCU or step-down level experience required, including post-cardiac/vascular, post-cardiac cath, post-open heart surgery, post-TAVR, post-EP studies, and post-pacemaker insertion
- Experience with cardiac procedural recovery (CABG/TAVR/post cardiac cath) required
- Proficiency with MI pharmacology and titratable cardiac/vasoactive drips (Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Levo, Dopamine) and Heparin drips required; manager approval needed if this experience is lacking
- Cardiac rhythm interpretation and chest tube management skills required
- TNK administration experience preferred
- 2 professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
- DOB and SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
- Unit support includes CNAs (ratio 1:5-8 depending on shift), an unassigned charge nurse, phlebotomy for peripheral blood draws, a tele tech, RT available 24/7, and a hospitalist in-facility 24/7
- Orientation consists of 2 partial days of education followed by 3 12-hour shifts on the unit
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Free parking available on-site
- Candidates must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
- First-time travelers are considered only with 2 or more years of nursing experience
- Former permanent staff must wait 1 full year before returning as a traveler
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved; a full week off requires an extension, and no time off is permitted during the first 3 weeks of August (Sturgis Bike Rally period)
