Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Stepdown/Med-Surg flex unit position requiring Epic proficiency and the ability to manage both step-down and floor patient assignments.

Details

• Work setting is an acute care hospital in a 29-bed Stepdown/Med-Surg flex unit
• Unit serves both floor and step-down patients based on patient and hospital needs, with a diverse medical diagnosis population
• Step-down nurse-to-patient ratio is 3:1; floor ratio is 6:1; Clinical Associates (CAs) support the unit with a goal of 1 CA per 10 patients
• RNs are required to titrate drips, including heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, antiarrhythmics, phenobarbital, ketamine, morphine/dilaudid/fentanyl PCAs, and TPN
• Respiratory equipment on unit includes CPAP, BiPAP, and Hi-Flow on floor and step-down; ventilators are present in step-down but patients requiring vent setting adjustments are transferred to ICU
• Remote telemetry surveillance center and central monitoring are available on the unit; RNs are not required to read their own strips; Philips telemetry monitoring equipment is used
• EMR is Epic; experience is required
• 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7:30a, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Travelers are first to float to other floor or step-down units

Requirements

• Active WV or Compact RN license required
• Current BLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Ability to manage a 6-patient med-surg assignment or a 3-patient step-down assignment
• Two references required for consideration: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN); if the candidate worked at a permanent facility within the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that facility
• Valid driver's license required for consideration
• Current skills checklist (within the past year) required for consideration
• Copies of all certifications required for consideration

Additional Information

• Charge RNs and House Supervisors are available 24/7; the unit aims to maintain a free charge RN, though charge RNs may take an assignment while the unit is newly opened
• All agency RN positions on this unit are posted as weekend positions
• Approximately half of all recognized WVUH holidays are expected to be worked
• Scrub color requirement is any combination of royal blue and white
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
• Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year before taking a 2-year break
