Description
American Traveler is hiring a Sonographer / Ultrasound Technologist with 2+ years of experience for a 13-week travel contract at a Critical Access Hospital in North Dakota.
Details
- Acute care Critical Access Hospital (CAH) setting
- Sonography/Ultrasound department with one general ultrasound room and one dedicated echo room, with expansion to two general ultrasound rooms planned
- Studies performed include OB limited, OB 2nd and 3rd trimester, OB follow-up, OB transvaginal, single and multiple fetus OB studies, GYN, non-OB pelvis, abdomen, abdomen limited, breast, breast limited, soft tissue, thyroid, scrotum and contents/duplex, venous doppler, carotid, retroperitoneal comprehensive, thoracentesis, paracentesis, US-guided breast biopsy, FNA, venous doppler extremity, and fetal BPP without NST
- Average caseload of 6–8 scans per day with option for add-on exams
- Equipment includes Philips Epiq 5, Epiq Elite, and Mindray (backup)
- Charting systems include MEDITECH, McKesson, and CRTIS
- Primary schedule is Mon–Fri, 7:30 AM–4:00 PM with occasional call; schedule may be adjusted to 4x10-hour shifts when coordinated with other travelers
- On-call required only when both other travelers are out of town simultaneously; 20-minute call response time required
- Occasional weekend call coverage required under the same conditions
- Holiday coverage is at the traveler's discretion — outpatient scheduling is closed on weekday holidays, but the traveler may choose to come in to cover ER/OB ultrasounds or take the day off
- May be asked to perform ultrasound in the OR in rare cases (e.g., abruption); will not float to other departments
- Telerads available 24 hours; nursing supervisor always available on-site
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of sonography experience
- Active RDMS certification required; RDMS (OB/GYN), RDMS (AB), and RVT preferred
- Active BLS certification required
- Active ND State License required (license required if applicable); pending licenses will not be accepted
- Comfort and proficiency with non-echo and vascular studies required
- Experience with the full range of general and OB/GYN ultrasound studies required
- Ability to provide compassionate patient care with strong attention to detail and quality imaging
- Proficiency with computer technology and EMR systems
- A copy of your driver's license is required for consideration
- 2 professional references required for consideration: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, each including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past 12 months (candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered)
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include performing a wide range of general, vascular, and OB/GYN ultrasound studies, as well as room cleaning and maintenance, machine upkeep, supply stocking, checking for outdated supplies, and maintaining a safe environment
- Echo exams are handled by a dedicated echo sonographer — this role focuses on general and vascular ultrasound
- A late-shift traveler assists with the afternoon outpatient schedule and add-on exams to ensure adequate lunch coverage
- Orientation is approximately one week, with extension available if needed
- A nursing supervisor is always available on-site; no on-site radiology supervisor or lead tech
- Gray scrubs are required; scrubs are not provided by the facility
- First-time travelers will be considered for this position
- All requested time off must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved after submission
