Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level II NICU position requiring at least 2 years of recent NICU experience, active MO or Compact RN license, and night shift availability.

Details

  • 5-bed, Level II NICU admitting infants 34 weeks gestational age and above; higher acuity or lower gestational age infants are stabilized and transferred to a higher-level NICU
  • Patient population includes neonates 29–34 weeks and neonates >34 weeks gestational age
  • Patient ratio is 1:2–3
  • Shift is nights, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:00)
  • 13-week contract
  • Weekend requirement: minimum of 4–5 weekend shifts (Sat/Sun) and minimum of 2 Fridays per 6-week schedule period
  • 2 mandatory on-call shifts required per 6-week schedule
  • Floating required to well newborn nursery and postpartum; regular floating may be required between departments, units, and facilities as needed
  • Block scheduling is not available
  • EMR not specified
  • Standard NICU equipment in use, including IV pumps, syringe feeding pumps, phototherapy equipment, incubator/isolette/Omnibed/radiant warmers, and neonatal echo; telehealth available for neonatologist support and consultation

Requirements

  • Active MO license or Compact RN license currently in hand; both Kansas and Missouri licenses (or Compact equivalent) must be in hand prior to start due to floating requirements between facilities
  • Minimum 2 years of recent NICU specialty experience required, including at least 1 full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months with no employment gap greater than 90 days
  • Current certifications required: BLS and NRP; STABLE certification preferred
  • Experience with neonates, blood glucose monitoring, bottle/breast/gavage feedings, isolation precautions, central line/implanted line care, UAC, UVC, and neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS)
  • Experience attending high-risk deliveries preferred; cross-training in postpartum/couplet care is a plus
  • 2 professional references required: at least one must be supervisor level or above, and the second may be a charge RN; all references must be from supervisors who have worked with the candidate within the past year

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include stabilization and transfer of higher-acuity or lower-gestational-age newborns, and may include assisting with needle aspiration, chest tube placement, UVC/UAC line placement, lumbar puncture, intubation, surfactant administration, resuscitation, initiation of passive cooling, and other procedures
  • When NICU census is low, travelers are expected to assist with well newborn assessments and procedures
  • Travelers are not required to take couplet assignments, but experience in postpartum/couplet care is preferred
  • Charge RN assignments and holiday shift coverage may be required as needed by the unit
  • RTO is capped at 7 days for the duration of the contract
  • Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • Travel partners are not accepted for this position
  • First-time travelers are not eligible for this position
  • Pre-compliance modules (approximately 10–15 hours) must be completed prior to start
