Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Operating Room position at a Level II Trauma acute care hospital in West Virginia, requiring at least 2 years of OR experience and Epic proficiency.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting with Level II Trauma designation
- Operating Room unit with 11 total rooms — 8 OR suites and 3 Endoscopy suites, handling approximately 65 cases per day
- Wide variety of surgical cases including General, Vascular, Ortho, Neuro, Eyes, and ENT (no open heart procedures)
- DaVinci Robot is in use; experience with robotic-assisted surgery is a strong plus
- Will cross-train to Endoscopy
- Baxter infusion pumps in use; equipment includes Phillips and Dynomap monitors
- Epic EMR in use
- 12-hour night shifts, Wednesday through Friday
- On-call rotation: one weeknight call every 4 weeks (7PM–7AM) and one weekend call shift (Friday, Saturday, or Sunday) up to 24 hours per 13-week contract
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active WV RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of OR nursing experience required
- Experience across all areas of the OR required
- Epic EMR experience required
- A valid, unexpired driver's license is required for consideration
- Two references required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)
Additional Information
- Candidate must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this travel position
- Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers may not work within the WVU Medicine system for longer than one cumulative year without a 2-year break
- No pre-screen interview required for this OR position; candidates interview directly with the unit manager
- First-time travelers are not specifically excluded, but 2 years of OR experience is required

Was told in phone interview that max ratio would be 1:9. Reality was 1:15. Unit was considered transitional, but patients were more like med/surg. Not willing to risk my license for such unsafe ratios.
