Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced CVOR RN for a float pool position at a 1,000+ bed Level I Trauma academic medical center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of CVOR experience, prior travel experience, and the ability to both scrub and circulate cardiac surgeries.
Details
- Position is within the OR Float Pool at a 1,000+ bed Level I Trauma academic medical center
- 56-bed OR serving both inpatient and outpatient cases, plus 5 procedural rooms
- Adult patient population only; no pediatric cases (Children's Hospital OR is a separate location)
- Complex patient cases include CABG, valve and repeat cardiac procedures, heart failure, ECMO, VAD, heart and lung transplant, pulmonary thromboendarterectomy (PTE), cardiac trauma, and adult congenital
- 12-hour day shifts, Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM (specific days vary based on unit need; block scheduling is not available)
- Call is required — travelers participate in a 3-layer, 24/7 on-call rotation with requirements varying every 6 weeks
- Floating may be required between OR rooms within the same facility (not between locations)
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active TN or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of CVOR experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Must be able to both scrub and circulate cardiac surgeries
Additional Information
- RNs will scrub and circulate complex cardiac surgeries including transplant and ECMO cases
- Must be willing and available to take call as part of the 3-layer, 24/7 on-call rotation in addition to regular 12-hour shifts
- Call requirements rotate on a 6-week cycle
- This is a high-acuity, high-volume academic medical center environment
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position

Pros
Lots of resources, Nurses week is awesome they really do a lot. Ratios in ICU always 1:2 or 1:1 with CRRT or devices.
Cons
pay is low, cheap university do not want to spend money on smaller things. Charting system is epic but the amount of charting is a lot. Very tasky, doctors put in lots of orders. Little room for nurse driven protocols everything is asking for permission.
