Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week ICU/Acute Care travel assignment in Illinois, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and proficiency with critical drips.

Details

• 7-bed ICU within an acute care hospital setting
• Patient population includes COPD, AFib, post-op cases (e.g., colon resections), diabetic patients, COVID-19 patients, and occasional alcohol withdrawal, suicidal ideation, and GI bleed cases
• Common drips include Cardizem, Levophed, and Insulin; minimal sedation and ventilated patients present
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2
• 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
• Schedules posted 6 weeks in advance; block scheduling may be accommodated upon request
• Every third weekend required on night shift
• Holidays are negotiable; willingness to work holidays is helpful
• On-call is not required, though picking up additional shifts is appreciated
• Travelers generally remain in the ICU; floating to Med-Surg/Acute Care (1:4 ratio) is possible but infrequent
• Charting system: Cerner
• Cardiac monitoring via Nihon Kohden monitors; RNs read their own strips (no dedicated monitor techs)
• Respiratory therapy is in-house 24/7; equipment includes ventilators, BiPAP, and Vapotherm
• Hospitalist and NP available daily; on-call at night; ER or anesthesia team assists with emergent situations such as intubations

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and PALS (PALS can be obtained on-site)
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience; ICU experience strongly preferred
• Proficiency in managing a range of ICU patient conditions, including titrating critical drips

Additional Information

• Orientation consists of 3 shifts: Day 1 is a 12-hour shift covering HR, infection control, computer-based learning, and equipment training; Day 2 includes 4 hours of unit and staff development orientation; Day 3 is a 12-hour precepted shift on the floor
• Charge nurse and house supervisor support available; charge nurse may carry a patient assignment
• Nurse aides from Acute Care may assist, but ICU nursing is generally total patient care
• Required scrub dress code: pewter-colored scrub tops or jackets, black pants, black shoes, and black socks; colored tops are permitted as long as the outermost layer is pewter
