Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift contract at a Level I Trauma acute care hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of recent ICU experience and an active NE or compact RN license.
Details
- Med Surg ICU unit in a Level I Trauma, acute care hospital setting serving as a primary tertiary hospital for the health system
- 34-bed unit caring for adult and pediatric patients (age 15+) with diagnoses including respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke, cardiogenic shock, renal failure, GI bleeds, general surgery, psych/OD, and cancer-specific surgeries
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1-2 (ICU), 1:4-5 (PCU), and 1:5-6 (MS)
- RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
- Equipment includes CVPs, A-lines, Swans, EV-1000, ICP monitoring, Zoll Thermoguard (hypothermia protocol), Bell Mont rapid transfuser, and respiratory support ranging from nasal cannula to ventilators
- Charting via Epic EMR
- Draeger heart monitoring with centralized telemetry; RNs must be able to independently read and interpret telemetry strips
- 12-hour night shifts (18:30–06:30)
- Schedule is manager-assigned based on unit needs
- Every other weekend required
- 2 out of 3 major holidays required, or every other holiday based on unit needs
- Floating required to all inpatient units, excluding Maternity/NICU
Requirements
- Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses will not be accepted
- Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS; pending certifications will not be accepted
- Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience required
- Ability to independently read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips
- Driver's license required for consideration (used to verify residence outside the 50-mile radius)
Additional Information
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address
- Candidates who are currently or were recently (within the past year) employed full time, part time, or PRN at any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity, are not eligible; candidates previously employed PRN through outside firms will be considered
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Unit orientation consists of 2 shifts
- A pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered on the Friday of orientation; a score of 90% or higher is required to pass
- RNs are prohibited from wearing artificial nails in any patient care area
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Unit interviews with unit leaders are required as part of the selection process
- RTO must be requested upfront; 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract will be considered, and additional RTO will not be approved
- Fast-paced, high-volume environment with a collaborative team including attendings, fellows, and residents; charge nurse attends rapid response teams (RRTs) and codes on each shift
- Nurse aides/patient care techs are available on the unit at a 1:18 ratio
