Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week night shift travel contract on a Med/Surg PCU Neuro Trauma unit at a Level II Trauma facility, with drip titration and trach/vent experience strongly preferred.
Details
- Level II Trauma Center, acute care hospital setting
- 28-bed PCU/Med-Surg Neuro Trauma unit (5N)
- Neuro-focused patient population including strokes, seizures, Guillain-Barré, Myasthenia Gravis, spinal injuries, thrombectomies, TNK/TPA (24 hours post), endovascular procedures, AMS, and dementia; trauma patients include hematomas, bleeds, falls on blood thinners, and farm/MVA accidents
- Night shift nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6 depending on acuity
- Nursing aides available on nights at a 1:12 ratio
- RNs are required to titrate drips; common drips include Heparin, Nitro, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, 3% saline, and Insulin
- RT equipment in use includes vents, trachs, CPAP, BiPAP, Vapotherm, and EtCO2
- Central telemetry monitoring is located off-unit
- Charting system is Cerner (transitioning to Epic)
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
- Self-scheduling with manager balancing; schedule opens 6 weeks in advance
- Every other weekend required (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
- Holiday coverage typically required for 2–3 winter holidays and every other holiday otherwise
- Floating required to sister MS units across 6 specialties including mixed care, cardiac, general, MS ortho, and heme/onc
- No on-call or standby requirement
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active WI or Compact RN license required by start date
- Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg, PCU, or ICU RN experience required
- Experience in a relevant setting within the last 1 year is required
- Drip titration experience required
- Trach and vent experience strongly preferred; facility is willing to train on vents for candidates open to learning
- Two professional references required: one from a supervisor within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and one from a peer or supervisor within the last 3 years of relevant experience
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Former permanent staff at this facility must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their consideration date, and hospital approval is required
- Candidates living within 80 miles of the facility are considered local, which may affect travel pay eligibility
- Orientation consists of 1 general shift and 1 shift with a preceptor (8 hours total)
- Any solid color scrubs are acceptable
- Travel duos cannot be guaranteed the same shifts
