Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Mixed Acuity ICU position managing intermediate care and non-vented ICU-level patients, with neurological and post-procedural patient populations requiring advanced monitoring skills.
Details
- Work on a mixed acuity unit (4 South PCU) with 18 beds, serving both intermediate care and non-vented ICU-level patients
- Patient population includes neurological and post-procedural cases such as post-TNK, neuro IR procedures (embolizations, angiography), hemorrhages/aneurysms, burr holes, post-VP shunt placements, post-craniotomy/craniectomy, lumbar drains, spinal cord injuries, non-vented neuro patients including EVDs, continuous EEG, and neuro/spine surgery
- Additional diagnoses include respiratory failure, CHF, hypotension, sepsis, AMS, acute neurological diagnosis, DKA, and electrolyte abnormalities
- RN-to-patient ratio is 1:3 based on acuity; CNA ratio is 1:12
- EMR: Cerner (experience required)
- Equipment includes Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Spacelabs & Resparray monitors, bedside monitors, and bladder scanner
- RNs are required to read and measure telemetry strips independently
- 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required; back-to-back weekends possible but rare
- No on-call requirements
- Floating to like units as needed (MS-to-MS, MS-to-ICU task, MS-to-ER holds; ICU-to-ICU, ICU-to-MS task up to 3 patients, or ICU-to-ER holds)
- Schedule operates on a 6-week cycle
Requirements
- Active RN license (AL or Compact); AL license not required at time of consideration but must be obtained prior to start
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 1 year of ICU experience required; first-time travelers considered with at least 2 years of ICU experience
- Experience managing patients on BiPAP/CPAP, cardiac rhythm interpretation, CVP monitoring, hemodynamic line monitoring, post-surgical drains, trachs, and chest tubes
- Experience titrating vasoactive and critical care drips including Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Esmolol, Insulin, Cardene, Nitro, Levophed, and Epinephrine
- Must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- 1 reference from a charge nurse or above within the past 12 months required for consideration
- DOB (day and month) and full SSN required for consideration
- Copy of certifications required for consideration
Additional Information
- Robust departmental support includes CNAs, a receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, rapid response team, a dedicated educator and nurse mentor, 24/7 RT, 24/7 hospitalist, and 24/7 intensivist coverage
- New travelers to the facility or those returning after 1+ year away will complete 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours of on-unit orientation; orientation for recent rehires is determined on a case-by-case basis
- Holiday coverage is required for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy; specific holiday scheduling is not guaranteed in either direction prior to arrival
- Up to 7 days of time off may be approved during the assignment, excluding blackout dates
- Scrubs: any color
- Free parking available on campus and in the parking deck
- Former permanent staff must wait 6 months before being considered as a traveler at this facility
- An interview is required as part of the hiring process
