Description
American Traveler is seeking a travel RN for a Med/Surg 2 unit position at a Level IV Trauma Center in Sheboygan, WI, requiring at least 2 years of experience and proficiency in a range of med/surg skills.
Details
- Works in a 24-bed Med/Surg 2 unit within a 101-bed Level IV Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center
- Patient population includes orthopedic cases (total hip/knee replacements, spinal surgeries) and general med/surg diagnoses such as CHF, COPD, and respiratory, kidney, liver, and GI conditions
- Patient ratios: 1:4-5 on days/evenings and 1:5 on nights
- 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM–7:00 AM), with additional shift options of 3:00 PM–3:00 AM and 3:00 AM–3:00 PM
- 36 hours per week, 3 shifts per week
- Weekend rotation every third weekend
- No on-call requirements
- Holiday coverage required for up to 3 holidays per contract (observed holidays include Thanksgiving Eve, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, NYE, New Year's Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, and Memorial Day)
- EMR: Epic (experience preferred)
- IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis
- May float within scope of practice to MS1, Cardiac MS2, and ED Holding
Requirements
- Active WI or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS certification required; NIHSS certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of med/surg RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in peripheral IV starts, wound care, dressing changes, wound vacs, drains, chest tubes, and stable trach management required
- Experience managing patients on BiPAP/CPAP required
- Experience managing insulin and heparin drips required
- Minimum 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the last year required for consideration
- Candidate's middle name or initial, date of birth, and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration
- Former employees of Advocate Health or any of its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before being eligible
Additional Information
- Unit support includes CNAs (1:5-10 ratio depending on shift) for vitals, blood glucose, and IV removals; a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) on days and part-time on evenings; a charge nurse with a modified patient assignment; phlebotomy for peripheral lab draws; RT available 24/7; and hospitalist coverage 24/7
- OT, PT, and speech therapy available on weekdays
- For difficult IV sticks, the House Supervisor is notified rather than an IV/VAT team
- Orientation consists of a New Employee Orientation (NEO) followed by 1-2 12-hour shifts on the unit
- Schedules are made in 4-6 week increments and provided approximately 2 weeks in advance
- Up to 7 days of requested time off (RTO) may be approved
- Any solid, professional scrub color is acceptable
- Free parking is available on site
