Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position at a Level IV Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center in Sheboygan, WI, with a 13-week, 12-hour day shift contract.

Details

  • Work in a 24-bed Med/Surg unit within a 101-bed Level IV Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center
  • Patient population includes orthopedic cases (total hip/knee replacements, spinal surgeries) and general med/surg diagnoses such as CHF, COPD, and respiratory, kidney, liver, and GI conditions
  • Patient ratios: 1:4–5 on days/evenings and 1:5 on nights
  • Shift options: 12-hour shifts (0700–1900, 1500–0300, 1900–0700, 0300–1500), 36 hours/week
  • Weekend rotation every third weekend
  • No on-call requirements
  • Up to 3 holidays may be required during the contract (eligible holidays include Thanksgiving Eve, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, NYE, New Year's Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, and Memorial Day)
  • May float within scope of practice, primarily to MS1, Cardiac MS2, and ED Holding
  • EMR: Epic (experience preferred)
  • IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis

Requirements

  • Active WI or Compact RN license required
  • BLS certification required; NIHSS preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Proficiency in PIV starts, wound care, dressing changes, wound vacs, drains, chest tubes, and stable trach management
  • Experience managing patients on BiPAP/CPAP
  • Experience with insulin and heparin drips
  • One professional reference from within the past year required, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Candidate DOB and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration
  • Candidate's middle name or initial required for consideration

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Former employees of Advocate Health or any of its subsidiaries must have been separated for at least 12 months to be eligible
  • Local candidates are accepted at the same rate with no radius restrictions
  • Unit support includes CNAs (1:5–10 ratio depending on shift) who can perform vitals, blood glucose checks, and IV removals; HUC on days and part-time on evenings; charge nurse with a modified patient assignment; phlebotomy for peripheral lab draws; RT and hospitalist available 24/7; OT/PT/ST available on weekdays
  • For difficult IV access, the House Supervisor should be notified (no dedicated IV/VAT team)
  • Orientation includes a New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 1–2 twelve-hour shifts on the unit
  • Schedule is made in 4–6 week increments and provided at least 2 weeks in advance
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved during the contract
  • Any solid, professional scrub color is acceptable
  • Free parking is available on-site
