Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular Surgical ICU (CSICU) position requiring a minimum of 2 years of CVICU experience and at least one prior travel assignment.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting in a 20-bed Cardiovascular Surgical ICU (CSICU)
  • High-acuity patient population including pre- and post-op CABG, LVADs, Impellas, IABP, TAVRs, CRRT, critical drips, and Swan monitoring
  • Patient ratios of 1:1–2
  • Travelers will not be assigned LVADs; core staff will validate skills for CABG recovery, IABP, and CRRT
  • Charting on Cerner EMR
  • 12-hour night shifts; nights begin at 1745 with bedside report
  • Every other weekend required
  • Holiday rotation with core staff
  • First to float; floating may include other Sacramento-area facilities, with rare mid-shift floats to another facility
  • CSICU may float to MSNICU (Neuro experience preferred)
  • Charge nurse on unit; generally does not take patients but provides break relief
  • Nurse aides available based on census and staffing
  • Respiratory therapy and pharmacy available 24/7
  • No IV team on unit
  • Telemetry monitoring in use; EKG strip reading and interpretation required
  • Ventilator management required
  • Hospitalist or Intensivist in-house at all times
  • Self-scheduling used, balanced by manager; schedules posted 4 weeks in advance and accessible remotely

Requirements

  • Active CA RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
  • Minimum 2 full years of CVICU experience required
  • At least one prior travel assignment required
  • Ability to read and interpret EKG strips required
  • Ventilator experience required
  • Cerner EMR experience beneficial
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration
  • Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered

Additional Information

  • Care for pre- and fresh post-op CABG patients (extubation goal within 6 hours), managing critical drips, IABP, CRRT, and Swan monitoring under established pathway protocols
  • Candidates must be proactive and confident in requesting assistance given the very high acuity of the unit; all assigned cases must be accepted without special accommodations
  • 1–2 days of floor orientation with a preceptor provided
  • Prior to contract confirmation, candidates must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia (DYS) exam — a pass/fail test with a minimum score of 80%, and candidates are allowed 2 attempts
  • A pass/fail sterile technique test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes is administered on the first day of orientation
  • Navy scrubs required; undershirts must be navy, white, or black; scrub jackets are optional but must be navy if worn
  • Neuro experience preferred due to potential float to MSNICU
  • IABP assignments are not 1:1
