Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a Level 1 Trauma facility in Nebraska, requiring telemetry competency and night shift availability.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting, Level 1 Trauma Center
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU), 4th Floor East Wing — 55-bed unit
- Adult patient population; pediatric patients are rare and are 15 years of age or older
- Common diagnoses include CVA, TIA, subdural hematoma, shortness of breath, COVID, and generalized weakness
- Common medications and drips include PCA pumps, Cardizem, and insulin
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4 on both day and night shifts
- Alaris IV pumps used; mechanical lifts available in every other room
- Charting via Epic EMR
- 12-hour night shifts (1830–0630)
- Every other weekend required
- Floating required, ideally to med/surg areas based on highest unit need
Requirements
- Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license required — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses will not be accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — all must be active; pending certifications will not be accepted
- Telemetry competency required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Candidate must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, as verified by driver's license
- Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health; those who worked PRN through an outside agency may be considered
- Driver's license required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- Unit is supported by CNAs, a charge nurse, an educator, care managers, social workers, dieticians, PT, and OT
- Navy blue scrubs required for RNs; CNAs wear ceil blue
- RNs must pass an open-book skills exam (90% or higher required) administered on Friday during orientation — failure to pass results to contract termination
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove artificial nails will result to contract termination
- Patient experience focus includes hourly rounding and responsiveness
- The unit is described as a close-knit team that is collaborative and supportive
- 13-week contract with 12-hour night shifts
