Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Mixed Acuity ICU role managing intermediate care and non-vented ICU patients, including complex neuro and post-procedural cases, requiring ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.
Details
- 18-bed mixed acuity unit caring for both intermediate care and non-vented ICU-level patients
- Patient population includes neurological and post-procedural cases such as post-TNK, neuro IR procedures (embolizations, angiography), hemorrhages/aneurysms, burr holes, post VP shunt placements, post craniotomy/craniectomy, lumbar drains, spinal cord injuries, EVDs, continuous EEG, and neuro/spine surgery
- Additional diagnoses include respiratory failure, CHF, hypotension, sepsis, AMS, acute neurological diagnoses, DKA, and electrolyte abnormalities
- RN-to-patient ratio is 1:3 based on acuity; CNA ratio is 1:12
- 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation every other weekend; back-to-back weekends possible but rare
- No on-call requirements
- 6-week scheduling cycle
- Floating may be required to like units (MS or ICU-level assignments including task and hold patients)
- EMR: Cerner
- IV pumps: Plum 360; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Spacelabs & Resparray
- Unit equipment includes bedside monitors and bladder scanner
Requirements
- Active AL RN license or compact RN license required
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 1 year of ICU experience required; first-time travelers must have at least 2 years of ICU experience
- Experience managing patients on BiPAP/CPAP required
- Cardiac rhythm interpretation skills required, including reading and measuring telemetry strips
- Experience with CVP monitoring, hemodynamic line monitoring, post-surgical drains, trachs, and chest tubes required
- Experience titrating vasoactive and critical care drips including Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Esmolol, Insulin, Cardene, Nitro, Levophed, and Epinephrine required
- Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Required documents for consideration: 1 reference from a charge nurse or above from the past 12 months, copy of certifications, SSN, and DOB (day and month)
Additional Information
- RNs are responsible for reading and measuring telemetry strips independently
- Support staff includes CNAs, charge nurses, HUC/receptionist, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, rapid response team, RT (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), and intensivist (24/7)
- A dedicated educator and nurse mentor are available as a resource
- New travelers and those who have been away from the facility for 1+ year will complete 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours of unit-based orientation
- Orientation for returning travelers will be determined based on their last date at the facility
- Former permanent staff must wait 6 months before being considered for a travel position
- First-time travelers are accepted with a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience
- One major and one minor seasonal holiday coverage is required per policy; specific holiday assignments are not contractually guaranteed prior to arrival
- Time off requests are subject to facility blackout dates requiring management approval
- Scrubs: any color accepted
- Free parking available on campus and in the parking deck
- An interview is required as part of the selection process
