Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Long Term Acute Care Stepdown Unit position specializing in respiratory and vent-dependent patients, with prior travel experience required.
Details
- Work setting is a specialized hospital Respiratory Stepdown Unit (SDU), not a traditional Med/Surg environment
- Primary patient population consists of respiratory-focused, vent-dependent patients requiring complex medical care
- Respiratory Care Unit has 36 beds; Respiratory Stepdown Unit has 38 beds
- Day shift patient ratios: 1:9 (Days/Evenings) and 1:12 (Nights) on the Stepdown Unit
- 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- Every other weekend is required
- Travelers are required to float first to like units, including: Respiratory Care Unit (D/E 1:9, N 1:12), MRU/CMU Medically Complex Rehabilitation with cardiac monitoring (D/E 1:7, N 1:9), TRU for TBI and Medically Complex Chronic Care (D/E 1:7–1:10, N 1:12), and a Hartford Satellite Campus covering Medical, Rehab, and Respiratory (ratios 1:5–1:8, average 6–7)
- Float RNs will not be assigned to Pediatrics unless pedi-specific
- 13-week assignment
Requirements
- Active CT or Compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
- Minimum 1–2 years of RN experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Experience with respiratory and/or vent-dependent patients strongly preferred
- Nurses are not responsible for managing ventilators (Respiratory Therapists handle vents), but comfort working alongside vent-dependent patients is essential
Additional Information
- RN responsibilities include IV starts, drip management, blood administration, EKGs, medication titrations, glucose monitoring, wound vac changes, complex and simple wound dressings, trach care, suctioning, straight cath, foley care, port access, central line dressing, and wound measurements
- Respiratory Therapists manage ventilators; RNs focus on surrounding clinical care
