Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center in Winston-Salem, NC, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ED experience and active TNCC certification.
Details
- Works in a high-volume, fast-paced Emergency Department with 55 horizontal beds, 6 vertical beds, 15 observation beds, and 5 behavioral health holding beds, averaging 200–220 patients per day
- Level 1 Trauma Center and academic medical center with a Chest Pain Center, Burn Center, and Stroke Center
- Patient population includes ESI levels 1–5 covering trauma, stroke, STEMI, and burn cases, including GSWs, stabbings, MVCs, MIs, CVAs, cardiac/respiratory arrests, overdoses, conscious sedation, vent management, and more
- Patient ratios range from 3:1 to 6:1 depending on clinical area and acuity
- Travelers will not likely be assigned to trauma bays during initial contracts
- 12-hour night shifts, 1930–0730, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call requirements
- Schedules run on a 6-week cycle with RTO subject to manager approval
- May float to the ED Transition Care Unit
- EMR: Epic
- Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Philips monitors, GE ultrasounds for point-of-care use, and GE EKG machines
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC
- Minimum 2 years of ED experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Academic medical center or Level 1 Trauma Center experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the past year
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Must have been separated from any Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position before being eligible
Additional Information
- Provide and coordinate comprehensive patient care using the nursing process, evidence-based practice, and strong clinical decision-making across a diverse and high-acuity ED population
- Department support includes ED Techs (ADLs, vitals, I/O, Foley placement, phlebotomy), unit secretaries, charge nurses, pod leader resource nurses, paramedic staff, 24/7 critical care pharmacists, 24/7 RT, 24/7 hospitalists, 24/7 intensivists, and a SANE Quality Coordinator
- Orientation includes facility NEO followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays

- First-time travelers will only be considered if they have 3+ years of Level 1 Trauma Center experience
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
