Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring PCU/Stepdown experience, ACLS/BLS/NIHSS certifications, and arterial line competency for 12-hour night shifts at a Level II Trauma facility in Nebraska.

Details

  • Acute care setting, Level II Trauma facility
  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU/Stepdown), 40-bed unit with an average daily census of 24
  • Patient population includes adults with cardiac med/surg, dialysis, cancer, vascular, sepsis, respiratory, stroke, post-stent, post-pacer placement, and renal failure diagnoses
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5 on both days and nights; nurse aides/patient care techs available at a 1:12 ratio
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and insulin
  • RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry strips
  • High flow respiratory equipment is in use on this unit
  • EMR: Epic
  • 12-hour night shifts (1830–0630)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Minimum of 2 holidays required within the contract period
  • Floating required to MedSurg or to ICU for PCU-acuity patients
  • If placed on call, must be able to arrive on-site within 30 minutes if called back in

Requirements

  • Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses will not be accepted
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications will not be accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Competency with arterial lines required
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, as verified by a valid driver's license
  • Driver's license required for consideration
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) directly by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered

Additional Information

  • Unit serves a diverse patient population, primarily Hispanic and Somalian communities, with a strong emphasis on patient experience, responsiveness, and medication communication
  • Charge nurse is present on each shift and carries an assignment
  • Unit is equipped with overhead lifts (in half the rooms), portable lifts, vein finders, and bladder scanners
  • Scrub color: Navy Blue
  • Unit-specific orientation consists of 1 day; an open-book, pass/fail skills exam is administered during orientation — a minimum score of 90% is required to pass
  • Blocked scheduling will not be approved unless it is weekends only; shared-care or same-schedule duo requests will not be accommodated
  • RTO must be requested upfront; no more than 7 days per 13-week contract will be approved, and additional RTO will not be approved after consideration
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
  • The ideal candidate is a team player who is flexible, adaptable, and communicates effectively
