Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Medical ICU position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and certifications including BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS.
Details
- 14-bed Medical ICU unit within a 637-licensed-bed Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital
- Patient population includes medical ICU patients with diagnoses such as respiratory failure, renal failure, sepsis, GI bleed, DKA, stroke, ARDS, and overdoses
- Cares for chronic ventilator and chronic trach patients, as well as hemodynamically unstable patients requiring invasive monitoring
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1–2 (up to 1:3 in rare circumstances)
- 12-hour day shifts, 7a–7p, 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation: 6 shifts per 6-week schedule
- Floating required to all adult ICU units in-house, including PCU
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- EMR: Epic (experience noted)
- IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis; monitors: Philips
- Unit-specific equipment includes TABLO (renal replacement therapy), Belmont Rapid Infuser, VS3 vital sign monitors, PCA pain management, SCDs, and cooling/heating blankets
Requirements
- Active RN license — GA license or compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- CCRN preferred but not required
- Minimum 2 years of ICU RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Level 1 Trauma and/or academic teaching hospital experience preferred
- Proficiency with trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, insulin drips, heparin drips, and vasoactive medication management
- Experience with invasive line monitoring including arterial lines, CVLs, and intracranial pressure monitoring
- Experience with ventilator management required
- TABLO experience preferred
- 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include management of critically ill medical ICU patients, including ventilator support, vasoactive drip titration, invasive line management, and assistance with bedside procedures such as chest tube placement, tracheostomy, and PEG tube placement
- CNAs are on unit each shift to assist with vitals, glucose checks, baths, feeding, ambulation, turning, rounding, and patient transport
- Unit secretary available 7a–11p; house-wide call secretary available 11p–7a
- Respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage available 24/7
- PICC team available (no general IV team); nurses draw from CVLs
- Resource and discharge nurses available; resource team floats to all units
- Central Telemetry Unit for monitoring support
- Orientation consists of 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules, followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- Holiday coverage required: one shift of each major holiday grouping (Thanksgiving Day or day after, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1)
- Scrub color: Navy
- Free parking available on campus
- Must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent employment position
