Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a high-acuity Step-Down Unit position requiring Epic and ventilator experience, with a minimum of 2 years in a large hospital setting.
Details
- High-acuity, fast-paced Step-Down Unit in a large hospital setting
- Patient population includes DKA, GI bleed, COPD, pneumonia, stroke, sepsis, and urology complications
- Targeted patient ratio is 1:4, with potential to reach 1:5-6
- Procedures and skills utilized include cardiac drip management, chest tube and drain management, ventilator/trach care, and IV starts
- Epic EMR experience required
- Night shift schedule: 4x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
- Every other weekend and holiday coverage required
- Travelers are first to float at the facility's discretion, within medically appropriate specialty clusters, including a high-risk respiratory/COVID unit
- Floating may include assignments across multiple campuses within the health system
Requirements
- Active OH or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS and ACLS required; NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a large hospital setting; Level 1 trauma experience preferred, Level 2 accepted
- Epic EMR experience required
- Ventilator/trach experience required
- IV start proficiency required
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips required
- Must pass an online EKG telemetry competency assessment prior to starting the assignment
- Travel nursing experience preferred
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
Additional Information
- Strong time management and critical thinking skills are essential for success in this role
- Responsibilities include monitoring cardiac rhythms, managing ventilators/trachs, administering cardiac drips, and caring for a diverse, high-acuity patient population
- N95 fit testing will be completed prior to working on the high-risk respiratory unit, with PAPR available if needed
- Navy blue scrubs required
- RTO must be submitted at the time of initial consideration — no RTO requests will be accepted after an offer is extended, and approval is at the manager's discretion
- 13-week contract with up to 3 shifts subject to cancellation due to low census
