Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Blood Cancer Oncology Unit position in Denver, CO, requiring at least one year of acute care oncology experience and an active CO or compact RN license.
Details
- Night shift (7P–7A) on an 18-bed Blood Cancer Unit
- Patient ratio of 3–4:1
- Day shift staffing includes a charge nurse (no patient assignment), 3–5 RNs, and 1 CNA; night shift includes a charge nurse and 3–5 RNs
- Equipment used includes telemetry monitoring, bladder scanner, Alaris pump, and Alaris PCA
- EMR: Meditech
- Typical procedures include lumbar punctures, bone marrow biopsies (with and without conscious sedation), and thoracentesis
- High-acuity hematology patients requiring frequent medication administration, blood transfusions, and electrolyte replacements
- 13-week contract in Denver, CO
Requirements
- Active CO or compact RN license required
- BLS certification required (AHA or ARC accepted; must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start)
- ONC (Oncology Certified Nurse) certification required
- Minimum 1 year of recent, acute care oncology experience required
- US SSN and DOB required for consideration
- One professional reference required
- No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
Additional Information
- Chemo and biotherapy certification is preferred; nurses without this certification will not administer chemo or biotherapy but will work around hazardous drugs — education on handling excreta is provided
- Step-down experience is a plus, as the unit manages standing orders (e.g., fluid bolus, first fever protocols) and highly acute hematology patients
- Strong team culture with a primary nursing model and limited use of PCTs
- This unit has earned HCA's Unit of Distinction award 4 out of 5 years, ranking among the top 2 of 600 med-surg units nationwide within HCA
- Compassionate, adaptable, and quick-learning candidates are the best personality fit for this unit
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible — no local candidates accepted
