Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Telemetry unit position requiring at least 5 years of RN experience, charge experience, and prior travel nursing experience.

Details

  • Night shift position working 12-hour shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
  • Acute care telemetry unit with 20 private beds on a 2nd floor unit
  • Patient population includes telemetry, post-catheterization, medical/surgical with telemetry monitoring needs, and respiratory difficulty
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5 for telemetry patients
  • Charting system is Epic (experience preferred)
  • Every other weekend required — night shift covers Friday and Saturday
  • Rotating holidays required: Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's
  • Floating may occur to a comparable or lower-acuity unit such as telemetry or med/surg; occasional pulls to the ED or ICU for admitted patients
  • No on-call requirements
  • Self-scheduling and block scheduling are available depending on unit needs
  • Point-of-care testing includes blood glucose monitoring using an AccuChek glucometer
  • Cardiac monitoring is a mix of 10 hardwired monitor rooms and portable telemetry-capable rooms, supported by remote monitor techs
  • Nurses are expected to understand basic dysrhythmia interpretation and verify telemetry strip readings
  • Nurses place IVs and may draw labs from central lines when ordered
  • Nurses reconstitute antibiotics; telemetry patients may require titrating heparin
  • RT is available 24/7; no ventilators on the unit
  • 24/7 hospitalist coverage is available
  • 2 PCTs support the 20-bed unit with shared Q2-hour rounding

Requirements

  • Active WV or compact RN license required
  • Required certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Minimum 5 years of RN experience required
  • At least 1 year of prior travel nursing experience required
  • Charge nurse experience required
  • Driver's license required for consideration — address must reflect residence more than 50 miles from the facility
  • Two references required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)

Additional Information

  • Travelers may be asked to take on charge or preceptor responsibilities based on comfort level and unit need; this is always discussed in advance and never forced
  • Orientation consists of education modules and shadowing on day one, a supervised orientation shift on day two, and independent practice beginning on the third shift
  • On the first day, the RN should report to the corporate center for a badge and parking pass before proceeding to the unit
  • EKG testing is required for this unit
  • Navy blue scrubs are required and must be provided by the nurse
  • Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before returning
  • Travelers who have reached one cumulative year of experience across WVU facilities must also take a 2-year break before re-applying
  • First-time travelers are not eligible for this position due to the required travel experience
