Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week ICU/PCU travel assignment in Arizona, requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience and the ability to titrate drips in a combined acuity unit.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting in an ICU/PCU combined acuity unit (Multi Care Unit) that manages ICU, PCU, and med-surg level patients within a single 10-bed unit
- Medical ICU patient population includes sepsis, suicide attempt, drug/alcohol withdrawal, COPD, respiratory arrest, pneumonia, COVID, DKA, and post-op complications; PCU patients include those on non-titratable infusions for hemodynamic management
- Patient ratios vary by acuity: ICU 1:2, PCU 1:4, med-surg 1:5-6; if no nurse aide, RN takes 1:3 with primary care responsibilities
- RNs are required to titrate drips including sedation, vasopressors, and insulin
- Respiratory therapy support available for vents, BiPAP, and CPAP
- Telemetry is present on the unit; remote monitor techs support PCU and med-surg patients; RNs must perform 12-lead EKGs and monitor ICU patients via bedside cardiac monitor
- Charting via Cerner EMR
- 12-hour night shifts (1900–0730)
- Every other weekend required (Friday and Saturday nights)
- Travelers are first to float; floating may occur to the EC med-surg and pediatric units for adult assignments, and to the West Campus ICU/PCU with a two-hour notice requirement
- Holiday rotation required to fairly distribute holidays
- Low census standby rotations apply
Requirements
- Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
- Required certifications: BLS and ACLS — must be active; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required; candidates with 1 year of ICU and 1 year of PCU/med-surg from larger facilities with strong skills may be considered
- Experience titrating drips (sedation, vasopressors, insulin) required
- Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam with a score of at least 80% within two attempts prior to offer confirmation
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Valid driver's license required for consideration
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (permanent address as shown on driver's license)
Additional Information
- Profile review and manager interview are part of the selection process
- On the first day of orientation, RNs are given a pass/fail sterile technique test covering Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
- Candidates who fail the Relias Dysrhythmia exam or the sterile technique test on a second attempt will be ineligible for CommonSpirit Arizona and Sacramento-region facilities for 6 months
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility — including CHI and Dignity — within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Orientation consists of hospital orientation followed by unit-specific orientation (12 hours total)
- Any scrub color may be worn except camouflage
