Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU/Stepdown) position at a Level II Trauma facility in Nebraska, requiring ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications with at least 2 years of experience.

Details

  • Acute care stepdown/PCU unit in a Level II Trauma hospital setting
  • 35-bed unit serving adult and geriatric patients with cardiac, nephrology, stroke, diabetes, and continuous EEG monitoring diagnoses
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4–5; nursing aides/patient care techs available at a 1:10 ratio
  • RNs are required to titrate drips, including Cardizem, beta-blockers, and seizure medications
  • Charting via Epic EMR
  • 12-hour day shifts (0630–1900) and night shifts (1830–0700) available
  • Every other weekend required
  • Every third holiday required
  • No on-call or standby requirement
  • Floating required to medical floors, ICU, or rehab units

Requirements

  • Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses not accepted
  • Required certifications (all must be active, AHA-issued): BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS; pending certifications not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • BSN not required
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Driver's license required for consideration and used to verify candidate address
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify for travel rates
  • Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) at any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health-affiliated facility, nor have been directly employed by any such facility within the past year (candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered)

Additional Information

  • This is a fast-paced unit; nurses who thrive here demonstrate a positive attitude, strong communication, critical thinking, and effective problem-solving skills
  • Orientation consists of onboarding during the first week followed by 1–2 days of floor-specific orientation
  • A pass/fail, open-book skills exam is administered on the first Friday of orientation; a score of 90% or higher is required to pass — failure results in contract termination
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove them will result to contract termination
  • RTO must be requested upfront and is limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
