Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a fast-paced Med/Surg Tele unit requiring orthopedic nursing experience and telemetry skills, working 12-hour night shifts.

Details

  • MS/Tele unit in a hospital setting with an average daily census of 37 patients across 39 beds
  • Patient population includes orthopedic, neuro spine, general med/surg, and post-surgical cases
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 5-6:1, with the possibility of flexing up to 7:1 in extreme circumstances
  • Fast-paced unit with a focus on pain management for orthopedic and spine patients
  • COVID-positive patients are cared for on the unit if not requiring ICU-level care
  • Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15), 3 shifts per week
  • Block scheduling available (Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon)
  • Every other weekend required; any weekend call-out must be made up on a weekend
  • Floating is required; travelers may be assigned to other med/surg units within the facility based on census needs
  • EMR: Epic (experience required for first-time travelers)

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required (may submit with license pending)
  • Current certifications: BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) required; ACLS preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Orthopedic nursing experience is required
  • IV insertion and telemetry skills required
  • Must pass an EKG test prior to start
  • Epic EMR experience required for first-time travelers
  • Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required prior to start (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are accepted provided they have Epic experience
  • Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are accepted at a reduced rate
  • Orientation is held weekly; 8–10 hours of pre-start online modules are required and must also be completed annually
  • No RTO permitted during the first week of assignment due to orientation
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved, provided it does not fall on a holiday; additional RTO requires facility approval
  • Candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays; no holiday RTO will be approved
  • Previous permanent, PRN, or EP staff of Novant Health or New Hanover Regional must wait 12 months before being considered as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
  • Travel pairs are allowed, but each must have their own transportation and be prepared for potentially different schedules
  • Preferred qualifications include ACLS certification and prior charge nurse or Level I Trauma experience
