Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg position in West Virginia, requiring at least 1 year of experience and a WV or compact RN license for 12-hour night shifts.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg unit (Level 8-23) in a 48-bed inpatient hospital setting
• Common diagnoses include pneumonia, UTI, altered mental status (AMS), GI bleed, alcohol withdrawal, and fall/weakness cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:5-7 on days and 1:6-8 on nights
• PCT support is available with an average ratio of 1:10-12; PCT duties include vitals, blood glucose monitoring (BGM), EKGs, heart monitor application, bathing, feeding, toileting, and turning/positioning
• Respiratory therapy (RT) manages breathing treatments, inhalers, ABGs, and respiratory equipment such as BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow O2; RNs are responsible for monitoring only
• A monitor tech located off-unit reads and monitors telemetry for all patients and alerts nursing staff as needed; RNs are not required to read or interpret telemetry strips
• RNs may be required to titrate drips, excluding cardiac drips; common titratable drips include heparin, bumex, and lasix
• Charge nurses are present on each shift; on days, two charge nurses are assigned and may carry a patient assignment; on nights, a single charge nurse does not take an assignment
• EMR: Epic
• 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a), with weekends as scheduled
• Every other weekend required
• No call or standby requirement
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• BSN not required
• A copy of an unexpired driver's license is required for consideration
• Any licensing hits (disciplinary actions) must be disclosed at the time of consideration
• 2 references required: 1 supervisor reference and 1 peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., charge RN); if permanently employed within the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that facility
• Skills checklist completed within the past year required
• Copies of all certifications required

Additional Information

• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
• Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying; cumulative experience applies and travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than 1 year total before a 2-year break is required
• Orientation consists of 1 day with an educator/computer system and 1 day with a preceptor
• No self-scheduling or block scheduling; the manager builds the schedule and will work with staff around requested time off (RTO); travelers are expected to be flexible to help fill gaps
• Rotating shifts are spread across weeks so that days and nights are not mixed within the same week (typically 2 weeks of days followed by 2 weeks of nights)
• Holiday rotation may apply
• Floating may be required to other Med/Surg, Med/Surg-Tele, or IMC units for lower acuity patients
• RN scrub color is navy blue
