Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Stepdown Unit (8SE) night shift position requiring strong MedSurg Stepdown experience, drip titration skills, and cardiac rhythm interpretation.
Details
- Work in a 32-bed Stepdown unit at an acute care hospital
- Post-surgical thoracic and medical patients are the primary population
- Patient ratios are 1:3 for stepdown assignments and 1:4 for combo assignments (mix of stepdown and floor patients)
- RNs are required to titrate drips within MD-ordered parameters; common drips include Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dopamine, Nitroglycerin, Esmolol, Heparin, and Lasix (no vasopressors)
- RNs interpret and document patient cardiac rhythms with each assessment Q4hr, or more frequently during drip titration
- Centralized telemetry monitors are available at the nurses station and in patient rooms; centralized telemetry interprets and files EKG strips into patient charts
- BiPAP and trach patients are present; no ventilator patients on this unit
- Charting is performed using Epic EMR
- 12-hour night shifts
- 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule (Saturday, Sunday, Saturday rotation)
- Holiday coverage required as scheduled
- No on-call or standby requirements
- Floating is rare
- 3-shift unit orientation provided
- 3–4 CNAs are on the unit per shift, supported by 1 Charge Nurse and 3 House Supervisors in-house
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- NIHSS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Strong MedSurg Stepdown experience required
- Demonstrated ability to titrate drips and interpret cardiac rhythm strips required
- Driver's license with an address located more than 50 miles from the facility required
- A valid, unexpired driver's license must be provided for consideration
- COVID-19 vaccination required (2-dose Moderna or Pfizer series, or single-dose J&J); medical or religious exemption requests are considered on a case-by-case basis
Additional Information
- Scrub color is Royal Blue
- Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before being considered
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year; once the one-year mark is reached, a 2-year break is required before returning
- All candidates will interview directly with a unit manager
- 2 supervisor and peer references are required for consideration, including a skills checklist completed within the past year
