  • Unit includes 2 OR suites for C-sections, 4 triage beds staffed by travelers, and a NICU embedded within 7 of the LDRP rooms
  • Approximately 90 births per month and 1,200 births per year

  • Staffing follows AWHONN standards: 1:1 for active labor, 1:2 for cervical ripening patients, 1:3 for postpartum couplet care, and 1:3 for triage with a resource nurse engaged at 4 patients
  • Epic is the EMR used on this unit
  • Titratable drips include Pitocin protocol, Magnesium protocol, and occasional Insulin drips
  • Centricity is used as the EFM system
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a
  • Weekend scheduling is based on unit needs with no minimum requirement
  • Travelers are first to float; floating may occur to other St. Luke's Treasure Valley sites (Meridian, Nampa, Boise) within primary skill set (L&D, Postpartum, or Antepartum) or as a sitter
  • No on-call requirement
  • Block scheduling is not available; candidates cannot work more than 6 shifts in a row

Requirements

  • Active Idaho RN license or compact RN license required, must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses are not accepted
  • Required certifications (all must be active, no pending accepted): BLS, ACLS, NRP, and STABLE
  • Minimum 3 years of L&D experience required
  • Mother-baby (couplet care) experience required; minimum 1 year preferred
  • Must be able to attend deliveries, complete the first hour of newborn care, perform triage, circulate C-sections, and provide postpartum couplet care
  • Experience with magnesium administration and titration required
  • Epic EMR experience
  • Charge nurse experience preferred
  • Driver's license required
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position

Additional Information

  • RNs are responsible for circulating and recovering C-section patients in the OR suites on the unit
  • Resource nurse role includes attending all deliveries as a 'baby catcher,' stabilizing newborns, completing physical assessments and cares within the first 2 hours of birth, and serving as a second sign-off on medications
  • Unit is supported by an OB hospitalist and a Neonatal NP both available 24/7, as well as anesthesia in house 24/7
  • Staffing support includes one CST per shift and a CNA who may transition to HUC coverage depending on staffing needs
  • Orientation consists of 4 unit-specific shifts covering C-section, labor, and postpartum; compliance and Epic Curio assignments must be completed prior to start
  • Scheduling for first-contract travelers is assigned to fill unit needs; subsequent contracts allow scheduling preferences which the unit will try to accommodate
  • Holiday coverage may be required based on unit needs during the contract period
