Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU position specializing in acute leukemia and hematology, with a minimum of 2 years of nursing experience and active OH or compact RN license required.
Details
- PCU setting within a cancer hospital and research environment
- Unit specializes in newly diagnosed acute leukemia and hematology patients, including adults and geriatrics
- Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls prevention
- Staffing ratio goal of 1:4, with a possible maximum of 1:5
- 12-hour rotating day/night shifts (7p–7:30a); candidates may be scheduled for days, nights, or a combination based on department needs
- Shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period; changes are based on staffing priorities and not guaranteed
- Weekend scheduling is variable based on unit needs
- Self-scheduling requests accepted and accommodated before the final schedule is set
- Epic EMR used for charting
Requirements
- Active OH or compact RN license required
- Required certifications: BLS and ACLS
- Preferred certifications: ONS Chemo Certification and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
- Required skills: med/surg telemetry, telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, blood product administration, IV therapy and phlebotomy, central line blood draws, PICC line management, peripheral line care and management, starting IVs, and feeding tube care and management
- Experience with Rapid Response Teams required
- 2 professional references required: at least 1 must be from a Manager, Director, or formal leadership role (e.g., Supervisor); a Charge RN is acceptable as the second reference; no coworker references accepted
Additional Information
- No chemo certification required for this position
- First-time travelers will be considered on a case-by-case basis
- Orientation consists of Mon–Fri day shifts during the first week, followed by 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor during the second week
- Former employees of the facility are eligible for a travel assignment after a minimum 6-month separation
- Requested time off (RTO) must be submitted at the time of application and is limited to 7 days or fewer for the duration of the contract
- Local candidates are accepted at the standard travel rate
- All candidates must complete Ohio state fingerprinting as early as possible; candidates outside Ohio may need to travel to a fingerprinting location or will be mailed a fingerprinting packet to be completed urgently
- Parking is available on campus through CampusParc with multiple permit options at the candidate's expense

Units are nice, staff are kind. Single patient rooms with 4:1 ratios day and night on med surg.
Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
