Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center specializing in cardiology, requiring at least 1 year of cardiology experience and proficiency with cardiac drip titration.

Details

  • 28-bed Cardiac PCU unit with an average census of 26 patients at a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center and designated Chest Pain and Stroke Center
  • Patient population includes Acute Coronary Syndrome, Heart Failure, NSTEMI/STEMI, Chest Pain rule-out, post-cardiac cath (PCI with or without stent), post-EP procedures (pacemaker insertion, ICD, ablation), arrhythmia management, and vascular conditions including Peripheral Artery Disease, AAA Repair, and DVT/PE
  • RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4–5; CNA ratio of 1:11–14
  • Must be proficient titrating cardiac drips including Argatroban, Digoxin, Diltiazem, Dobutamine, Dofetilide, Dopamine, Esmolol, Lasix, Insulin, Labetalol, Lidocaine, Milrinone, Nicardipine, Nitroglycerin, Sotalol, and Tirofiban
  • EMR: Epic; IV Pump: Alaris; Med Dispensing: Omnicell; Patient Monitors: Philips
  • 12-hour night shifts beginning at 18:30, 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
  • Floating within the cardiology division first, then to any med-surg unit within the hospital, including centralized telemetry; facility-wide float is for emergency situations only
  • No on-call or call-back requirements

Requirements

  • Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 1 year of cardiology experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Cardiac rhythm interpretation skills required
  • Cardiac post-procedural experience required
  • Proficiency titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • CNAs provide vital sign monitoring, blood glucose checks, hourly safety rounds, and ADL assistance
  • Unit support includes a Receptionist/HUC, Charge Nurse, 24/7 Respiratory Therapy (available via page), 24/7 Hospitalist, and 24/7 Intensivist; no IV/VAT team on unit
  • Nurses are responsible for monitoring and verifying telemetry strips once per shift; no dedicated telemetry tech
  • Orientation includes facility-level NEO and 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Scrub color: Royal Blue
  • Free, on-site parking available
  • Unit culture is described as family-oriented with teamwork as the top priority
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates who have worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
